Terms
Terms of use
What this website is, what it is not, and what you can expect from us. Written to be read, not to be skipped.
Last updated 3 November 2026.
This is not an emergency service
Nothing here is monitored around the clock. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 112 in Nigeria, or go to the nearest hospital. Do not wait for a reply from us.
We are also not a clinical service. We do not diagnose, we do not prescribe, and nothing on this site is medical advice or a substitute for seeing a qualified professional.
Who we are
This site is run by Be Empowered Network, Incorporated Trustees, registration CAC/IT/NO 140796, a non-profit registered in Nigeria. Contact: hello@beempowerednetwork.org.
By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not, please stop using it.
What we offer
Free peer support circles, school and workplace programmes, a directory of mental health services in Nigeria, and general information about mental health. Peer support means trained volunteers with lived experience, sitting alongside you. It is not therapy and it is not a replacement for it.
We do our best to keep the site available, but we cannot promise it will never be down or interrupted.
The directory
The directory lists hospitals, helplines, NGOs and online services run by other people. We compile it in good faith and check it periodically, but:
- We do not endorse, vet, supervise or take responsibility for any listed service.
- Details change. Always confirm fees, opening hours and availability directly with the service.
- Check a practitioner’s registration with the relevant Nigerian professional body before you pay anyone.
- If a listing is wrong, out of date or has treated you badly, tell us and we will look into it.
Bee, the chat companion
Bee is an automated self-help guide. It is not a person, not a counsellor and not an emergency service. Part of what you type may be processed by an AI provider outside Nigeria — our privacy notice explains exactly when. Treat anything it says as general information, never as advice about your particular situation.
Your account
- Accounts are for people aged 18 or over.
- Give accurate details and keep your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has got into your account.
- You can close your account whenever you like by emailing us. We will not make it difficult.
- We may suspend an account that is being used to harass people, break these terms or endanger others. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why first.
Using the site decently
Please do not use this site to harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, to send spam, to scrape or overload it, to break into any part of it, or to post anything unlawful. Our forms and circles exist for people who need them.
Donations
Donations go to Be Empowered Network’s own account, held in the organisation’s name. We will send a receipt if you ask. Donations are generally not refundable once given, but if you have made a mistake, contact us and we will do what we reasonably can. We will never pressure you to give, and we will not pass your details to another fundraiser.
Who owns what
The text, design, logo and photographs here belong to Be Empowered Network or are used with permission. Our written guidance may be quoted or shared for non-commercial purposes if you credit us and link back. Please do not reuse photographs of people in our programmes: those were given to us for a specific purpose, by people who trusted us with them.
Where we draw the line on liability
We provide this site and our free services in good faith and with reasonable care. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from your use of the site, from information on it, or from any third-party service listed in the directory.
Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer.
Accessibility
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. The site works with a keyboard alone, respects reduced-motion settings, keeps text readable at 200% zoom, and works with JavaScript turned off for everything that matters. We know we will have missed things. If any part of this site is hard for you to use, email us and we will fix it — that is a bug, not a request.
Privacy and safeguarding
How we handle your information is set out in the privacy notice. How we protect people at risk, and the limits of confidentiality, are in the safeguarding policy. Both form part of these terms.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and we will flag anything significant.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Nigerian courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer elsewhere, this does not deprive you of protections you have at home.
